Meconiumhoudend vruchtwater

Als er sprake is van meconiumhoudend vruchtwater tijdens de baring, is het protocol om de zorg over te dragen naar de tweedelijn. Daar wordt de conditie van de baby gemonitord met een CTG en na de bevalling wordt de baby een aantal uur geobserveerd in het ziekenhuis. Als de weeën nog niet op gang zijn, is het gebruikelijk om de baring in te leiden.

Wat is de reden van dit beleid? Is meconiumhoudend vruchtwater altijd gevaarlijk? Waarom lozen sommige baby’s meconium voor de geboorte? Opvallend is dat veel richtlijnen (zowel in Nederland als in het buitenland) verouderd zijn en gebruik maken van oude onderzoeken van meer dan 15 jaar oud. In dit artikel wordt meconiumhoudend vruchtwater en het beleid onder de loep genomen, waarbij zoveel mogelijk ook recent onderzoek wordt gebruikt.
